Cemetery - Dumpster Site

Zoo dumpsters adjacent to Walter Pierce Park, a popular multi use community park in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The three remaining Zoo dumpsters left on the burial ground were removed in August 1997

The dumpsters were located directly upon the an area identified in the 1889 National Zoo maps as a Cemetery. Documents indicates that a 1.7 acre plot from "colored cemetery" was condemned for Zoo use. Click here or on the map for an enlarged view that clearly shows the cemetery.
