Neighborhood Issues

There are many issues at the Neighborhood level that do not get an adequate hearing in the Media or at the City level. It is hoped that these pages will help rectify that imbalance.

These pages will not be confined only to Columbia Heights issues. To be effective it is important that the various neighborhoods be mutually informed and supportive. If you have a neighborhood issue you would like to publicize please contact David McIntire

  • The Holt House - Adams Morgan activists are petitioning to save a historic and federally protected Mansion located on the grounds of the National Zoo. The Holt House is reputed to have 19th century slave quarters in the basement.

  • Columbia Heights Economic Development - There are over ten acres of publicly owned land around the new subway stop. RLA and the City has recently made a disastrous decision regarding their development. The community is fighting back.

  • Housing And Gentrification - With the opening of the subway and the increasing popularity of living in Columbia Heights, rental and sales prices for houses and apartments are increasing. Dedicated residents, both renters and owners are working to keep Columbia Heights affordable and diverse. Learn about their efforts.
